I’ve been on a pillow making kick in the family room for the last couple of weeks; after the open house this Christmas, I decided that the couch was a little too bare.
I have added 5 new pillows since then, and I really like the way that they tie the colors of the rug in, and add a little pattern and softness to the room.
I had some feather pillow forms in my stash, so all of the new pillows are super soft, and recover well when squashed by tromping kids.
The big tasseled pillow was made as an Anthropologie knock off, and I have a tutorial that will go up for it tomorrow!
The colored chevron pillows were also Anthropologie inspired, and the tutorial for them is here.
The teal and gold deer pillows are my new addition that I made last night, they are just simple rectangles front and back, with a hidden zip in the bottom seam of each one.
The back fabric is the same teal velvet that I have on the other 3 new pillows, since I didn’t have enough of the deer fabric for the front and back of both pillows. I was planning on buying more fabric from a website like fabric carolina, but I made do instead. The deer fabric is by Anna Maria Horner, and it is from her Dowry line, in the Lineage pattern, and the Salt colorway. I always put zips or buttons in my pillow covers, because I know they will end up on the floor being stomped on, or sat on during a board-game, so I make sure that they can come off and be washed easily,
I thought I would add a couple of extra photos of the room, since it’s no longer decorated for Christmas.
I don’t put that much up for the holidays, so it’s not entirely different, but it is just a little different.
I got a new globe from Hobby Lobby recently (it made it onto the slow boat from the US so I waited 6 stink’n weeks.) I still don’t feel like I have the accessories quite right for this shelf, I originally planned to paint the globe with chalkboard paint, but now I don’t know, I feel like there’s a lack of color and object harmony here.
So, anyway, I think that this is probably about as many pillows as the couch can handle, and I am certainly under no illusion that the kids will keep 8 pillows straight, BUT for the brief periods it does happen, I think it looks good 🙂
I will try to get the tassel pillow tutorial up tomorrow. Actually, I have been deep cleaning the house and trying to fix my bathroom fittings which are in a poor condition. But I do not think I will be able to fix them alone. However, my friends have recommended me to check out this site for sourcing skilled plumbers. To be honest, I am in a hurry because the cleaning and repairing needs to be done before the spring season arrives. Anyway, I am a bit occupied and trying to post whenever time permits me.
